About
The Empowerment Opportunity

Feeling nervous and anxious may make you apprehensive about therapy. Don’t worry; this is normal.

The thoughts of feeling unprepared or not knowing what to say might make you think that more thinking is needed before you seek help. Don’t worry; being prepared at the beginning is not necessary.

“Perhaps my problems aren’t as bad as others, so I feel guilty about seeking therapy.” Problems are personal, and as such, they are worth addressing.

You might worry that your therapist will see you are not enough. A therapist does not judge – because you are more than enough and seek help.

Here’s what we know.

These thoughts, “I’m not good enough,” block who you are. This thinking creates enormous suffering. Part of the issue is that your mind creates a lot of problems for you. This is normal. The key is changing your relationship with your mind so that it works for you, not against you.The practice offers a unique team approach, meaning, that while the client will have a main therapist, they have the option of meeting with other therapists in the practice for a more integrative approach. All of the therapists provide talk therapy (which is a function of the left side of the brain) but in addition, the practice has added more interventions that target the right side of the brain (the creative side). Scientific research shows that integrating both sides of the brain is optimal for mental wellness. In addition to psychodynamic psychotherapy, psychoanalysis, and cognitive behavioral therapy, we offer breath work, mindfulness approaches, sound healing, attachment-focused EMDR, creative arts therapy, resource tapping, Gestalt chair work and psychoanalytic art (combining traditional psychotherapy with color expression).

You have always been counting external things: achievements/awards/compliments – it’s never enough, and you’re never enough – it’s exhausting!

Sometimes, outward success can stop us from seeing who we are. Measuring up is a strategy to try and replace the missing parts of ourselves – all along, you have just been looking in the wrong places.

As you grew up, you lost parts of yourself, for good reasons at the time – but you buried them so deep that you don’t even realize they were there. Those are the parts needed to feel whole – they are NOT gone – they live inside of you but hidden away like a lost treasure.

Here’s what we do.

We are going on a treasure hunt – you have been looking in the wrong places, and that is not your fault – no one ever taught you where to find your treasure. Using compassion and creativity, we will come up with safe ways for you to explore your inner world

Only if it resonates with you (we know that different things resonate with different people) – we may offer you resources to watch or listen to between sessions. One example would be to watch a video… such as “Releasing Limited Beliefs” by Tara Brach.

We will help you quiet the constant negative chatter through therapy. Compassion is the key, ours and yours.

You will learn how to stop self-hating and use that energy that keeps you in a state of anxiety and/or depression for a greater purpose.

If you stick with the therapy process, that imaginary and impossible measuring stick that you punish yourself with will eventually be replaced with lost parts of yourself, parts that know precisely how to live and be free, and finally calm, peaceful, and content.

What will therapy be like for you?

There is no right or wrong way for you to be in therapy. Like all new things, you might feel a bit self-conscious or nervous at first, and after a few sessions, you will likely notice becoming more at ease.

People are different. Some might want to take the lead and tell us all about themselves, or they might feel more comfortable if we ask more questions. Often, it’s a combination of both.

Our goal is to make the space safe for you to express yourself.

The therapeutic session is a devoted time and place each week with a compassionate therapist allowing for safe enough self-discovery.

People who work with us report being more excited to begin their days… through our work together, they realize how much life there is to explore…
